|
|
I'd like to list sub-categories in multiple columns, rather than one long column. How can I do this?
I tried creating a category template with "4" across and left the template blank. I assigned this category template to one category type, however, this did not work.
I'd like, for example, the following category to list the sub-categories four across:
http://www.pamperedpassions.com/bras_31_ctg.html
Likewise, how do I shut off the listing of sub-categories under categories, or categories under category type (if I were to hard-code the links in as I did in the above example, then they're listed again). _________________ John |

1. Create a "Category Template" on the "Template Storage" screen "Categories" section.
2. Assign the Category Template on the "Configure Per User" | "Generation" screen.
If this is not working for you, please reply with an example of your Category Template.

Create a new Category Template and assign it to the desired Category Type. The template should include only " ". |

Ed,
Thank you. I've implemented this and it works, however, there may be a broken tag or code in the shopping cart software because at the end of each categories description "IPTION" appears.
See: http://www.pamperedpassions.com/lingerie_styles_3_ct.html
You'll notice IPTION following each description. It's not in the template. _________________ John |

Ed,
My Category Template has been assigned to the Category Type "Lingerie Styles". I've formated the template and it is working fine when viewing the Lingerie Styles category type page.
The problem is that within the Lingerie Styles Category Type, I have a Category named "Bras". The Bras Category has several sub-categories.
The sub-categories are currently using the same Category Template formatting as the Lingerie Styles. How do I assign a different Category Template to format the sub-categories under Bras?
If I cannot assign a separate Category Template to sub-categories, how do I shut off the listing of sub-categories under a category? _________________ John |

This happened to me before because I mistyped the keyword which adds the Category Description to the Category Template. Please check to see if you are using this keyword (this is the correct one):
AUTO_GENERATED_CATEGORY_DESCR

It's not currently possible to assign a Category template per Category. A Category template can be assigned by Category Type or Per User.

Sorry, but I don't see a way to do this with the current system. |

Ed,
I've corrected the tempalte to use: AUTO_GENERATED_CATEGORY_DESCR
Please note, you need to update the Example provided from the under New Template within the Category Template area. The example uses:
AUTO_GENERATED_CATEGORY_DESCRIPTION, which is causing the extra "IPTION" at the end.
Please place on the features list a way to hide sub-categories and/or be able to use a different Category Template for sub-categories. If you visit,
http://www.pamperedpassions.com/lingerie_styles_3_ct.html
it's working well.
However, because our Bras category has sub-categories, see:
http://www.pamperedpassions.com/bras_31_ctg.html
The customer cannot see products right away as everything is pushed down because the sub-categories are using the same Category Template. I wish to simply list the sub-categories in multiple columns (across the page to save space). A work around would be greatly appreciated. _________________ John |

Thanks for pointing out the "IPTION" typo in our example. We will correct this.
Sorry, but I can't think of a practical workaround for the issue of the sub category list at the top of the category page. I suggest requesting this from your SearchFit account representative as a feature enchantment:
Ability to assign "Category Template" per Category & Sub Category.
OR
New Setting for Categories: "Show list of Sub Categories" Yes or No. |

I'll open this to any other SF users. Do you know of a way to format sub-categories (under categories) different than Categories (under Category Type)? My category type pages are looking good, however, category pages are pushing product down too far as a result of the formatting issue. _________________ John |

Ed/Stan,
Any time line available to be able to assign a different template/look to sub-categories listed under a category?
I do not want to use the same template/look as that assigned to categories listed under a category type.
You can see how the inability to differentiate the two layouts results in products being pushed far down the category page:
http://www.pamperedpassions.com/sexy_lingerie_56_ctg.html
Perhaps the best idea is to simply have the ability to turn on/off the listing of sub-categories within a category. This way, we can hard code the sub-category links into the category header area.

Any news on how to turn off the listing of sub-cateogries under the category? I've lost a few customers because they hate that the products are pushed so far down the page (as a result of the shopping cart not allowing a different category template for Category Style pages and Category pages).
I do not want the sub-category descriptions to be displayed. I can hard code in the links to each sub-category, however, we need away to either turn off the listing of sub-categories or the ability to assign a different template to Category pages (which would exclude, in this case, showing the sub-category descriptions).
Customers do not like that every category page lists the same (exactly the same) information on every category page (within a given category). So, for example, if we have a category with 20 pages. The customer has to scroll down every time.
Perhaps you could set-up a feature that moves the category content from above the products to below the products after the first category page. In that fashion, the products would move to the top of the page for each subsequent category page.

John, didn't we agree that the answer will be to allow you to setup category template per subcategory, so you can make it different than what you are currently doing for category types?
We are hammered with plenty of requests and I am not sure we have time to build this into the system right now. An implementation of such a feature should take no more than 3 hours, so please consider requesting it as a customized feature to give it appropriate priority. _________________ Stanley Stanev
